The Credential

La Credencial - The Credential

The increase of pilgrims in recent years, has led to the creation of an official model.

It is a kind of passport that credits you as a pilgrim to the tomb of St. James, and testifies the sites you been through. You have to seal it at least once a day, twice daily in the Galician section. It can be sealed by churches, shelters, municipalities, police, Guardia Civil, bakeries, etc. At the foot is a space in which The Office of the Pilgrim of Santiago will stamp the date while granting The Compostela. The credential is for the pilgrims on foot, bicycle or on horseback, who want to make the pilgrimage with a Christian approach, if only in attitude of search. It does not create rights to the traveler. It has two practical aims:

• The access to shelters that offer Christian hospitality on the road.

• To apply for The Compostela in the Cathedral of Santiago.

The credential is also a good way to remember it will bring to mind many experiences from the road.

From 2009 it is only allowed to obtain The Compostela who brings the official model.

Reasons:

• That pilgrims carry the correct information in the Credential.

• Avoid dispersion and marketing.

• Maintain the Christian orientation in the origin of the pilgrimage.
