Santiago - Fisterra - Muxia

ITINERARY

This Itinerary can be done in 5 o 6 days, depending on how long you want to stay in the tranquility of the Death Coast.

First Day – Santiago de Compostela – Negreira 22 km 4-5 h
The first stage to Fisterra or “Finis Terrae” goes through fields, granaries and livestock punctuate a journey without much difficulty.

Second Day - Negreira – Olveiroa 35 km 6-7 h
The route coincides at various points with the ancient royal road to Finisterre and the upland areas which allow you extended views.

Third Day - Olveiroa - Corcubión 20 km. 4-5 h
This route takes place above the valleys living the river Xallas. Flat sections mixed with many ups and downs lead us to Corcubión through forests and dirt roads with sea views. The first part is barren and arid, but the second part, descending towards Cee, is nicer, and especially attractive after Cee with the sea close at hand and facing the "End of the World."

Fourth Day - Corcubión - Fisterra 14 km
The Way takes us along the Langosteira Beach. Passes Finisterre o Fisterra and goes to the famous lighthouse at Finisterre (Finis Terrae), past the church of Santa Maria das Areas.
In Fisterra, in its pilgrims hostel, is delivered The Fisterra an accreditation of having made the pilgrimage to the End of the World.

Fith Day - Fisterra - Lires 14 km
The Way moves between small villages with samples of rural and religious architecture in Romanesque style. The way out of town can become confusing for the amount of yellow arrows pointing in opposite directions. Taking you to Muxía and coming from there. The route goes by small and quiet roads until you reach the sand of Praia do Rostro, and rises to the rural town of Padrisa and then into the woods towards Lires.

Lires - Muxia 17 km
The original road crosses a river on the outskirts of Lires, whose runway, except in time of drought, is submerged, so you may have to deviate to the town of Porcar, heading towards the nearest bridge, which rejoins the original path. This will be 3 km more from the original route, but avoids the dangerous current of the river Castro.
The end point is located in the Sanctuary of the Virxe da Barca, very important in St. James tradition, and its holy stones, around it, which are supposed to have healing properties. Before arriving, there is a fountain where pilgrims traditionally washed before entering the shrine as a symbol of purification and respect.
